Ramey Leads Sooner Rout in Devil's Bowl ASCS Shootout
MESQUITE, Tex. (July 16, 2005) -- The American Sprint Car Series Sooner and Gulf South Regions squared off against each other for the third consecutive year at Devil's Bowl Speedway on Saturday night, and for the third time in a row it was Fort Worth's Kevin Ramey racing to victory lane in the Regional Shootout.
American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Sooner Region rep Cody Branchcomb led most of the way before two-time and defending Sooner Region champion Ramey took command in the latter stages to secure the victory aboard the Wells-powered Commercial Music No. 7m Maxim.
Branchcomb took the lead at the outset and led the opening rounds before Danny Jennings took the point. Jennings lead was short-lived however, as he spun soon after to bring out a caution.
Branchcomb would lead the way until the final handful of rounds when Ramey snared the point and captured victory honors in the Third Annual ASCS Sooner vs. Gulf South Region Shootout.
Ramey beat Branchcomb to the line, with O'Reilly ASCS National Tour shoe Sam Hafertepe, Jr., claiming the show position. Jamie Passmore crossed the stripe fourth, with Jason Martin rounding out the top five.
Foster Landon and Skip Wilson were sixth and seventh, with Jennings recovering from his spin to snare eighth. Preston Peebles II and Jake Martens completed the top ten.
Scottie McDonald was the top-finishing regular for the Love's Travel Stops & Country Stores ASCS Gulf South Region by taking the checkered in 16th.
Greg Rilat, Hafertepe, Lane Whittington and Wilson topped heat race action for the 37-car field, with Ray Allen Kulhanek and Dex Eaton splitting victory honors in the twin 12-lap Mains.
