ASCS Sooner Region Set for Wingless Showdown at CCS
TULSA, Okla. (July 14, 2003) - As a result of popular demand from fans and competitors alike, the American Sprint Car Series will present the second non-winged event in its twelve-year history this Saturday night when the ASCS Sooner Region takes to Creek County Speedway's action-packed quarter-mile clay oval in Sapulpa, OK.
Saturday night's event, presented by American Bank of Oklahoma, is expected to draw a strong field of contenders, each attempting to etch his or her name into the ASCS record books by snaring a wingless victory.
The ASCS offered up its first ever non-wing event on May 10 at Creek County Speedway. The event was a tremendous success, drawing a strong field of cars and a packed grandstand. Fans and drivers have been clamoring for another wingless go, making the decision to go topless Saturday night an easy one.
Coming off this past weekend's ASCS Gulf South Region vs. Sooner Region Shootout triumph, his third Sooner Region victory of the season, Fort Worth's Kevin Ramey leads the way into Saturday night's racing action. Ramey, who finished eighth in his first wingless outing in the May 10 event, holds a 78 point lead in the series points chase over defending Sooner Region champion Danny Jennings of Norman, OK.
Along with Ramey and Jennings, also included among Saturday's stout field of cars will be top contenders such as Robert Sellers, Roy Larkin and Texas drivers Derek Drown and Brian Harvill.
This Saturday's event marks the ninth of 15 scheduled point races for the competitive ASCS Sooner Region. Racing action is slated to begin at 7:30 p.m.
Creek County Speedway is located twelve miles southwest of Tulsa, one mile west of I-44 Exit 211 on State Road 66. For more information, contact the track at 918-247-6675 or 918-838-3777.
