ASCS Sooner Region Fires off at Tulsa Next Saturday
TULSA, Okla. (March 24, 2005) -- The season opening event for the highly competitive American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Sooner Region is little more than a week away, as the series fires off at Tulsa Speedway next Saturday night, April 2.
Already noted for its competitive nature, the 2004 edition of the American Sprint Car Series Sooner Region didn't disappoint as the championship points race couldn't have been any tighter. When the season's final checkered flag fell, Oklahoma City's Andy Shouse and Fort Worth's Kevin Ramey found themselves in a virtual tie for the series championship.
It didn't end with Shouse and Ramey declared series co-champions, as Tony Bruce, Jr., of Liberal, KS, and Tulsa's Sean McClelland tied for third in points. The points madness continued with Lubbock's Preston Peebles II and Collinsville shoe Foster Landon tied for fifth as well.
Feature winners during 2004 ASCS Sooner Region action included Wayne Johnson, Danny Wood, Shane Stewart, Danny Jennings, Shouse, Ramey and past ASCS National champions Travis Rilat, Gary Wright, Wayne Johnson, Zach Chappell and Garry Lee Maier.
Leading the charge for ASCS Sooner Region bragging rights in '05 could very well be 2002 series champion Danny Jennings, who swept this past weekend's 32nd Annual Devil's Bowl Spring Nationals.
Finishing among the top five in last year's ASCS Sooner Region points, McClelland, Peebles and Landon are also expected to be among the top contenders for the '05 Sooner Region crown.
While both are expected at Tulsa Speedway next Saturday night, neither Shouse nor Ramey are expected to defend the Sooner Region title. Sooner Region grad Tony Bruce, Jr., currently ranked second in his Rookie campaign on the O'Reilly ASCS National Tour, will be in Tulsa as well during an off weekend for the National shoes.
The green flag is slated to fly upon a stout field of cars at Tulsa Speedway next Saturday night, April 2, at 7:30 p.m. For more information, contact the track at 918-425-7551.
In 2005, The American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Sooner Region consists of 18 events at seven different tracks throughout Oklahoma, Texas and Kansas.
In total, including the O'Reilly ASCS National Tour, the Heintz Performance ASCS Southern Tour and the Sooner, Gulf South and Rocky Mountain Regions, the American Sprint Car Series will sanction nearly 120 nights of racing in 2005 at more than 50 different racetracks throughout at least 15 different states.
