ASCS Sooner Region Makes Mid-America Return on Saturday
TULSA, Okla. (June 12, 2006) -- The American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Sooner Region returns to Mid-America Speedway in South Coffeyville, OK, this Saturday night as Texan Sam Hafertepe, Jr., tries to chip away at Sean McClelland's point lead.
Hafertepe topped a 42-car field in the ASCS Sooner Region's first visit to Mid-America in May, then scored his third Sooner Region win of the season by topping this past Saturday night's feature at Cowtown Speedway in Kennedale, TX.
With the victory, Hafertepe tied McClelland in the Sooner Region win column for '06 and climbed to within 26 points of the Collinsville, OK, racer in the championship points race.
While the reigning ASCS Sooner Region champion tries to hold off Hafertepe, two-time ASCS Sooner Region champion Kevin Ramey lurks a close third in points and will try to break into victory lane for the first time this season on Saturday night.
Although shut out of victory lane thus far in '06, Ramey still sits atop the all-time ASCS Sooner Region win list with 13 triumphs.
Tulsa's Brian McClelland enters Saturday's event ranked fourth in points, with 2001 Sooner Region kingpin J.P. Bailey in fifth. The rest of the current top ten includes Johnny Miller (Burleson, TX), Jimmy Taylor (Oklahoma City, OK), Dex Eaton (Owasso, OK), Justin Melton (Flower Mound, TX) and Derek Cottrell (Fletcher, OK).
Others expected for Saturday's event include 14-year-old Trey Robb, Cody Wampler, Michael Brown, Eric Baldaccini, Travis Jenkins, Cody Branchcomb and 2001 ASCS National champion Zach Chappell.
Saturday's racing action at Mid-America Speedway is slated to get under way at 7:00 p.m.
