ASCS Sooner Region Set for Lawton Speedway
TULSA, Okla. (June 28, 2004) - Oklahoma City's Andy Shouse leads the competitive American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Sooner Region into this Saturday night's annual Firecracker Nationals at Lawton Speedway.
Competition has been fierce on the American Sprint Car Series Sooner Regional trail over the first half of the season, with seven different drivers gracing victory lane through the series first eight events.
Danny Wood swept this past weekend's action to become the first Sooner Region repeat winner. Other 2004 Sooner Region winners include Wayne Johnson, Zach Chappell, Travis Rilat, Garry Lee Maier, Andy Shouse and Kevin Ramey.
Along with his May 9 victory at Wichita's 81 Speedway, Shouse has finished in the top ten in seven of eight features. Shouse took over the point lead this past Friday night at Oklahoma City's State Fair Speedway when Ramey was forced pitside after a tangle while leading in the latter stages. Ramey slipped to second in points, although just 14 points behind Shouse.
Less than 60 points out of the lead, Tulsa's Sean McClelland and Liberal, KS, driver Tony Bruce, Jr., are engaged in a tight battle for third in points, with only two markers separating the pair. Just 26 more points back is Lubbock, TX, rookie pilot Preston Peebles II.
Other top contenders expected this weekend include Danny Jennings, Foster Landon and Nick Smith, each of whom have raced to victory lane in ASCS Sooner Region action at Lawton Speedway in the past.
Approximately 25 cars are expected for Saturday night's card, which is slated to get under way at 8:00 p.m. Lawton Speedway is located off I-44 Exit 36, then 2.5 miles west on Lee Boulevard, then 1.4 miles south on Sheridan Road. For more information, contact the track at 580-355-6417.
