ASCS Sooner Region Tries Again Saturday at Mid-America
TULSA, Okla. (June 4, 2007) -- The American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Sooner Region will give it another try as the series takes to Mid-America Speedway in South Coffeyville, OK, this Saturday night.
The ASCS Sooner Region has been rained out three times over the past two weekends, including a slated May 26 stop at Mid-America. Saturday's card is a makeup date for that event.
With the recent showers, the likes of Sherman Davis, Brian McClelland and past series champions Kevin Ramey, Sean McClelland and J.P. Bailey haven't been afforded any opportunities to gain any ground on current series point leader Cody Branchcomb.
Branchcomb, the 21-year-old past Rookie of the Year with the ASCS National Tour hailing from Sapulpa, OK, enters Saturday's event with a 26-point lead over past ASCS Gulf South Region champion Ray Allen Kulhanek of Danbury, TX.
Sherman Davis of Sand Springs, OK, is just another twelve points back in third, a mere four points ahead of Tulsa's Brian McClelland. Two-time series champion Kevin Ramey of Fort Worth, TX, enters Saturday's card ranked fifth, with the balance of the current top ten including Gavin Punch (Collinsville, OK), Sean McClelland (Collinsville, OK), Nick Smith (Broken Arrow, OK), Brad Best (Tulsa, OK), J.P. Bailey (Fort Worth, TX) and Michael Brown (Lawton, OK).
In a half dozen past ASCS Sooner Region events held at Mid-America Speedway, Garry Lee Maier and Nick Smith have both notched a pair of wins with Travis Rilat and Sam Hafertepe, Jr., also scoring single wins.
Saturday's action atop the semi-banked, 3/10-mile Mid-America Speedway dirt oval is slated to fire off at 7:00 p.m.
Mid-America Speedway is located one mile south of the Oklahoma-Kansas state line on US 169, then 0.7 miles west. For more information, contact the track at 918-255-6698.
The 2007 schedule for the American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Sooner Region consists of 18 events at eight different tracks throughout Oklahoma, Texas and Arkansas.
The 2007 season marks the 16th year of sanctioning Sprint Car racing for the American Sprint Car Series. With a dozen different Regions in addition to the O'Reilly American Sprint Cars on Tour National series, ASCS will sanction approximately 240 nights of racing at more than 100 different race tracks throughout at least 30 different states and Canada.
