ASCS Sooner Region ready for Ada's Oklahoma Sports Park.
TULSA, Okla. (April 21, 2003) - The powerful Sprint Cars of the American Sprint Car Series Sooner Region make the first of two scheduled stops this season at Ada's Oklahoma Sports Park on Saturday night, April 26. The series returns later in the season on August 30.
Leading the competitive series into the event will be defending Sooner Region champion Danny Jennings of Norman and current series point leader Kevin Ramey of Ft. Worth, TX. Jennings topped last year's Sooner Region event atop Ada's semi-banked three-eighths mile clay oval en route to the Sooner Region championship. Ramey holds the early season ASCS Sooner Region point lead as he topped a 38-car field to win the season opening event on March 22 at Sapulpa's Creek County Speedway.
Among the other top contenders will be lady racer Stephanie Chappell of Talala, OK. A former top ten finisher in ASCS National points, Stephanie is splitting time between a full course load at college and pursuing the Sooner Region title, with help from "crew chief" Michelle Decker, who currently leads the two-barrel Champ Sprint points in Oklahoma City.
Other top contenders expected to be on hand include Mustang's Robert Sellers, the 2001 ASCS National Rookie of the Year, who led the Sooner Region opener until a last lap incident sent him pitside, Broken Arrow's Nick Smith, who won the Sooner Region event at Ada in 2001 before sitting out the 2002 season, Amarillo's Derek Drown, Oklahoma City area drivers James Shoun and Marcus Jackson and Tulsa area drivers Foster Landon, Kevin Risley and Roy Larkin, who finished second in Sooner Region points last season.
Close to 30 Sprint Cars are expected for the night of racing action at Oklahoma Sports Park. Racing action is slated to begin at 7:30 p.m. Mufflers are required.
Oklahoma Sports Park is located 8.2 miles northwest of State Road 19 on State Road 3-W, northwest of Ada. For more information, contact the track at 580-332-5535.
