Daggett Scores Another SOD Weekend Sweep: All Stars and Outlaws This Weekend
PORTLAND, Mich. -- Dustin Daggett's phenomenal season continued this past weekend with two more victories in northern Michigan. Daggett scored a victory Friday night at the Cherry Speedway and Saturday night at the Merritt Speedway. The victories were Daggett's fourth and fifth straight SOD victory, and ninth victory in his past 10 starts with Sprints on Dirt.
Daggett is thrilled with the handling of his Dowker powered Maxim Chassis.
"Everything has really fallen into place this season", said Dustin. "Hopefully someone will notice so we can move up to run a 410 next year somewhere full time".
Friday's victory came at the very abrasive Cherry Speedway in Fife Lake, Michigan. Daggett conserved his tire early on in the event by following early leader Gregg Dalman and Tim Norman. After Dalman's tire blew with three laps to go Daggett pulled along side Norman. The pair made contact and Norman spun off the racetrack. Daggett held during the two-lap shootout to win his first feature of the weekend.
Saturday Daggett had a spectacular heat race with his father Mike, as the father and son duo came down to nearly a photo finish with Dustin taking the victory. Afterwards both father and son where smiling over the hard but clean racing.
"That was a lot of fun", said Mike. "It is great to be able to race that hard with my son".
In the feature Daggett once again patently waited until lap six to move around John Gall to take the lead. From there Daggett was never challenged, winning his 10th SOD feature event this season.
"Merritt is one of my favorite tracks", said Daggett. "My Dad has always run well here, and we seem to have a pretty good handle on this place".
This week will be one of the most challenging weekends of Daggett's career taking on the World of Outlaws in his backyard at Ionia Raceway Park on Friday night. Saturday, the Daggett Racing team heads to Hartford Speedway Park where the 2004 King of Michigan will take on the Midwest's best with the All Star Circuit of Champions. Daggett finished 13th with the Outlaws earlier this season at Hartford.
