The heats were relatively uneventful, Sharons Speedway is a LARGE 1/2 mile it is 5/8 in the outside groove! So even uneventful heats are real fast...

Modified A Feature

This was one of the best races of the night, if not the best close racing I have seen in years, outside pole was Lou Blany #10, and 3rd starting position was Bob Crouse #83.

As the green flag fell Blany took the lead, and was passed in turn 2 by Crouse #83, they battled for first with crouse on the inside and Blany on the outside of the track almost every lap of the race, Just when Blany looked like he would pull ahead Crouse would shoot ahead of him, they raced side by side for 20 laps, on lap 22 Blany tried the low side and lost about 3 car length, he battled back side by side on the last lap and coming out of turn 4 on lap 30, Blany took the high groove and Crouse took the low grove, in a PHOTO finish, that had to be decided by the flag man Blany won by about a 1/2 of tire.... whew... close finish, the crowd was on its feet almost all of the race.

Finishing order...

1. Blany #10, 2. Crouse #83, 3. Dave Merdick #35, Ralph Spithaller #0

Oh for all you Dave Blany Fans, Yes Lou Blany is Dave's dad and the one responsible for getting Dave into racing, Lou has been racing for several year since he was 16 some time in the early 60's...

Sprint A feature

The race started out with Rod George #21 on the Poll, and Fred Rahmer #12 outside, third was..., 4th was Mark Kinser #5M

At the start of the race Fred Rahmer #12 jumped into the lead and Checked out.... in 2 lapps he was about 1/4 track a head of second place rod George #21, Followed by Todd Shaffer #88, and Mark Kinser #5m, for about 1/2 the race this was the order with Rahmer opening up his lead each lap. About lap 20 there was a caution.

On the restart Mark Kinser jumped to the out side of turn 4 and passed Shaffer #88 and George #21, and chased Rahmer for about 10 laps before passing him for the lead, after passing Rahmer Mark Kinser opened up about a 5 car lead and just dominated from then on, Rahmer ran 2nd for the rest of the race, followed by George #21 and Shaffer #88, with about 3 laps to go George got stuck behind a lapped car allowing Shaffer to pass him for 3rd. The race ended with this order...

1. Mark Kinser #5m, 2. Fred Rahmer #12, 3. Todd Shaffer #88, 4. Rod George #21, 5. Ralph Spithaller #16.....

Dale Blany finished pretty far back mmm, about 10th but he was a lap down to both Kinser and Rahmer......

The pay off for tonight was $10,000 with more on Sundays races..

I will report more if I go tomorrow.....
