"Visit Australia" signs Shane Stewart, #4M Team
Sydney, Australia (July 15, 2003) - In an announcement issued today by Sofact Pty., Ltd., the "Visit Australia Down & Dirty Down Under Tour" has signed Shane Stewart and Scott Chilcutt's #4M sprint car team to help promote the January 2004 trip from the USA to Sydney, Australia.
Shane and crew chief Rob Hart will compete in 34 events throughout the nation between now and the end of the season, racing in twelve states from Nevada to Mississippi and Texas to Iowa. Shane will work with racetracks and local media to promote the tour, which provides fans an opportunity to go "down under" with the stars and champions of the Knoxville Nationals and Knoxville Raceway next January. Among the drivers planning to compete in Australia are Steve Kinser, Donny Schatz, Daryn Pittman, Terry McCarl and Brook Tatnell.
"The connection between Australia and Shane, Rob Hart and Cathy Barrows is well-documented. Shane came to Australia in 1995 as part of the Australian two-man USA International Team and took home the Sedan Series Championship," said Cyril Peel, Chairman of Sofact. "Cathy, a native Australian, cut her teeth working on the family sprint cars as a teenager, eventually traveling to the states during the season and working with a number of top US teams. Rob Hart, a former driver from New York, has been traveling to Australia for many years with top teams for our summer season". He went on to say that Rob and Cathy were married last year and are presently expecting their first child in August.
As part of the program, the #4M team is assembling two new cars that Sofact will provide for Shane to race in Australia during the December - February period. This will include the three-day event at Parramatta City Speedway.
Tour sales and marketing are being handled by Carlson Wagonlit Travel, a US-based company with offices in 140 countries. Television, magazine and newspaper advertising, as well as a booth at the Knoxville Nationals, will also support the Australian tour.
