Shane Stewart Ready for Florida Sprint Wars
OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (January 27, 2004) -- After keeping his skills sharp by racing in Australia the past few weeks, Tulsa's Shane Stewart is ready to storm into Florida for 14 nights of Sprint Car racing aboard Scott Chilcutt's Oklahoma-City based No. 4m racing team.
Upon closing out the 2003 season in strong fashion aboard the Penske Shocks/mIn Motorsports Management/Sander Engineering mount, Shane carried his momentum "Down Under", where he finished fifth in Australia's World Series Sprint Car points despite not being on hand for the first four of fourteen scheduled events. Shane delivered Aussie car-owner Bill Mann his first-ever WSS feature win with a triumph at Brisbane on January 6 and also reached the podium on three other occasions.
With his Australian journey completed this past weekend, Shane made the long flight home and is prepared to begin his 2004 Florida adventures at the helm of Chilcutt's Wesmar-powered, Hoosier-shod Maxim this Wednesday night, January 28, as the four-night "King of the 360's" Nationals kicks off at East Bay Raceway Park near Tampa.
Shane will be among the leading candidates for Saturday night's $10,000 winner's share after finishing second in last year's "King of the 360's" Ronald Laney Memorial finale.
After a pair of USCS 360-ci events at Volusia Speedway Park in Barberville on February 3-4, crew chief Rob Hart, with assistance from Cathy Barrows who will also have her hands full with the couple's young daughter Ella, will quickly swap power plants in anticipation of this year's first 410-ci events, which get under way the next night at Volusia. Volusia's four-night 410-ci Winter Nationals, on tap for February 5-8, offers $10,000-to-win in the Sunday night, February 8, finale.
Action then shifts back to Florida's gulf coast, as Shane will try to pilot the Brodix/Banshee Graphics/B&B Oval Products entry to victory lane in East Bay's 410-ci Winter Nationals, slated for February 11-14.
There will be little time for rest upon the completion of 14 nights of racing over the span of 18 days in Florida, as Shane and the Schoenfeld Headers/HRP Wings No. 4m team will travel to Arizona for the World of Outlaws season opener at Manzanita Speedway on February 20. The team will compete on the early portion of the WoO tour before taking to Devil's Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, TX, for the much anticipated, first-ever Sprint Bandits event.
After a strong 2003 season, which included ten feature victories, 40 top-five finishes and 62 top-tens over 93 nights of racing at 48 different race tracks throughout 19 different states from coast-to-coast, even bigger things are anticipated from Shane and the No. 4m team in 2004.
