9/10/01, Selinsgrove, PA -- When the gates swing open for this Saturday's 19th annual Alexander Family Dealerships Sprint Car Open for 358 and 410 sprints at Selinsgrove Speedway, fans will have the chance to meet and greet two of Central Pennsylvania's finest sprint car drivers.
Slated to take place from 5:30 until 6 p.m., 2001 track champion Chad Layton of Harrisburg and five-time Open champion Fred Rahmer of Salfordville will be on hand for an autograph session behind the main grandstand.
On the heels of a ground breaking season at the Snyder County Oval while at the wheel of his United Expressline sponsored U1, 25-year old Layton brings an impressive 2001 resume into the fantastic open wheel double-header.
Set to compete in his first Open, Layton has already amassed 15 wins on the season with 12 of them coming during his championship run at Selinsgrove Speedway. Even more impressive is the fact that of the ten events Layton didn't win at the Snyder County oval, the young upstart rode to seven runner-up finishes while also recording a pair of fourth's and one DNQ. At the helm of the potent Hamilton Motorsports No. 77, Rahmer enters the speedways season climaxing event with 15 victories to his credit thus far in 2001 while also having notched one win in URC action. Rahmer currently ranks third on the speedway's all time win list with 50 triumphs but it is his Open record that requires examination.
Having taken checkered flags in 1995, '96, '97, '99 and 2000, "Fast Freddie" has also finished inside the top-five in every event he hasn't won since 1992, including a second, third, fourth and fifth place finish. All told, Rahmer has more victories and more top-five finishes to his credit than any other driver in Selinsgrove Open history.
Don't miss your chance to meet Chad Layton and Fred Rahmer. Saturday night's season climaxing Selinsgrove action, including twin 30-lappers for sprint cars, gets underway at 6:30 p.m. with gates opening at 5.
