SELINSGROVE, Pa. - Selinsgrove Speedway and Raceway Park are scheduled to spin off the 2003 season openers this Saturday, March 22 and Sunday, March 23, respectively.

Selinsgrove Speedway will kick off its 58th season with a program of Cindy Rowe Paintless Dent Repair sprint cars, MAPCO Machine Shop late models, Salem RV Center/Keller's Auto Body pro stocks and roadrunners on Saturday at 6 p.m.

"If the weather cooperates this week and the parking lot, pit area and track surface dry out we're hopeful we can get the season started on Saturday," said co-promoter Charlie Paige on Sunday evening.

Grandstand and pit gates on Saturday will open at 4 p.m.

In last year's opener, 16-year-old Kyle Purks of Langhorne made his first race in a sprint car a memorable one when he wired the field for the victory. Purks bested a field of 37 entries to become the track's 26th different sprint car opening day winner.

Purks announced he will return to Selinsgrove to defend his opening day win in a Mopar- powered sprint car owned by David Trutt.

Jeff Smith of Blain is the defending late model opening day winner at the track, while Kyle Bachman of Selinsgrove won his first ever season opener in last year's pro stock event.

Billy McNeal of Williamstown won the first roadrunner race of last season and went on to win the track championship.

Selinsgrove Raceway Park will begin its third season of operation on Sunday with a program of go kart racing at 12 p.m. Track gates will open at 9 a.m.

The micro sprint cars will make their season debut at Raceway Park on Friday, April 4.
