SELINSGROVE, Pa. - Selinsgrove Speedway will kick off the 2003 racing season with the track's annual motorsports show at the Susquehanna Valley Mall in Hummels Wharf Sunday, February 16 through Saturday, February 22.
The 2003 season opener is slated for Saturday, March 22 at 6 p.m., featuring a regular show of Cindy Rowe Paintless Dent Repair sprint cars, Mapco Machine Shop late models, pro stocks and roadrunners. Gates will open at 4 p.m.
The opener will mark the first of 29 race dates at the Snyder County oval this season. General admission for a regular show at the speedway will be just $8 for the second consecutive season.
Track officials will hold a race car flea market on the fairgrounds on Saturday, March 15 from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m., followed by an open practice session from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
The Cindy Rowe Paintless Dent Repair sprint cars will be in the spotlight for several special events during the 2003 season. Housing Products, Inc. will sponsor the 23rd annual Jack Gunn Memorial for sprints, run in honor of the late hall-of-fame promoter, on May 24.
In addition, the sprint cars will be featured in the Firecracker 40 on June 28, Twin 20's on July 19, and the season-ending National Open on September 13.
The Mapco Machine Shop late models will take the spotlight in the 5th Annual Late Model Open on July 5th and the 17th Annual Bob Bender Memorial on August 9.
Ink Spot Printing will sponsor the 2nd Annual Pro Stock 20 on May 31.
Selinsgrove Speedway will welcome back the traveling United Racing Club sprint cars on May 17. The last URC event at Selinsgrove was run on September 3, 2000, when Curt Michael of Ocean View, Delaware, scored the victory in the 25-lap event.
Middleswarth Potato Chips announced its return as the title sponsor of the Susquehanna Valley 410 sprint car series. The 410 sprint cars will make five stops at the half-mile oval in 2003, including a rare Friday night show on March 28.
Additional 410 sprint dates include the Opperman Memorial on Sunday, May 4; the PA Speedweek Finale on Sunday, July 6; the Labor Day Classic on Monday, September 1; and the 21st Annual Alexander Family Dealerships National Open on Saturday, September 13.
The super sportsmen from Silver Spring Speedway will join the 410 sprint cars for the events on May 4 and September 1.
Other special events at the track this season include Pack The Track III, featuring FREE general admission for a regular show, on May 3; two Camera & Autograph Nights on April 12 and August 23; Williams Grove Old Timers Night on July 26; and Kids Night IV on August 2.
Foss Jewelers, located in the Susquehanna Valley Mall, will sponsor the gold championship rings for the 2003 divisional track champions.
Selinsgrove Raceway Park will present its third full season of weekly go kart and micro sprint car racing on Friday nights. The one-fifth mile track, located inside of Selinsgrove Speedway, opens Sunday, March 16 with a program of go kart racing.
Selinsgrove Ford, located on Market Street in Selinsgrove, will return as the 2003 point fund sponsor for go karts and micro sprint cars.
Raceway Park's Friday night racing cards begin April 4, when the micro sprint car division makes its season debut. Three Pennsylvania Dirt Karters Association (PDKA) events have been scheduled for May 18, July 27 and August 24.
