Middleswarth Potato Chips returns as Title Sponsor of Selinsgrove 410 Sprint Car Series.

SELINSGROVE, Pa. - Middleswarth Potato Chips will return as the title sponsor of Selinsgrove Speedway's Susquehanna Valley 410 Sprint Car Series in 2003, it was announced by company officials.

Following on the heels of the successful four-race series in 2002, Selinsgrove Speedway and Middleswarth Potato Chips are expanding this year's 410 sprint car series to five events with the first race slated for Friday, March 28.

The series' opening race will mark the first time in more than a decade that Selinsgrove Speedway will host a Friday night sprint car racing program. The last Friday night show at the track was in 1992, when Darren Eash of Woodbine, MD, won the preliminary event as part of the two-day National Open.

The 410 sprint cars will be joined by the pro stocks on March 28. Gates will open at 6 p.m., with racing slated to begin at 8 p.m.

The second race in the series will be the 2nd Annual Jan Opperman Memorial on Sunday, May 4. Last year, Todd Hestor of Middleburg wired the field for the victory in the inaugural event in memory of the former 1973 Selinsgrove sprint car champion.

The popular super sportsmen from Silver Spring Speedway will join the 410 sprint cars for the Opperman Memorial, which will carry a Sunday, June 1 rain date.

Selinsgrove Speedway will then host the finale to the 13th annual PA Speedweek Series on Sunday, July 6. Greg Hodnett of Memphis, Tenn., is the defending winner of the event. With his victory at Selinsgrove last year, Hodnett clinched his first ever PA Speedweek title.

Selinsgrove will use Monday, July 7 as a rain date for the PA Speedweek finale.

The fourth race in the Middleswarth Potato Chips series will include the Labor Day Classic on Monday, September 1. The 410 sprint cars will be joined by the super sportsmen for the second time at Selinsgrove Speedway in 2003.

The Chip series will culminate on Saturday, September 13, when Middleswarth Potato Chips is an associate sponsor of the 21st annual Alexander Family Dealerships National Open for 410 and 358 sprint cars.

For the first time in his celebrated career, Lance Dewease of Fayettville won Selinsgrove's Open last September and, as a result, clinched the four-race Chip Championship. Adrian Shaffer of York won the 358 National Open.

The National Open will carry a rain date of Sunday, September 14.

Additional details for the series are expected to be released in the coming weeks. Selinsgrove Speedway will host its annual motorsports show at the Susquehanna Valley Mall Sunday, February 16 through Saturday, February 22.
