O'Reilly ASCS National Tour fires off Saturday at SWA.
TULSA, Okla. (April 7, 2003) - The O'Reilly Auto Parts American Sprint Car Series National Tour presented by Love's Travel Stops & Country Stores and United Trailers kicks off its twelfth season of racing action this Saturday night, April 12, at Southwest Arkansas Super Speedway in Murfreesboro, AR.
Headlining the stout field of expected entries will be a pair of past ASCS winners at Southwest Arkansas Super Speedway; 2001 ASCS National champion Zach Chappell of Talala, OK, and Gary Wright of Hooks, TX. Wright raced to Murfreesboro's victory lane in 2001, while Chappell edged Wright in an exciting battle through lapped traffic in last year's event atop the three-eighths mile high-banked red clay oval.
This season, Chappell will be gunning for a second ASCS national title, while Wright will make his first concentrated effort on capturing the ASCS championship. Wright, who has regularly run a majority of the ASCS national schedule, sits atop the ASCS all-time win chart entering the season with 61 triumphs.
Texas City, TX, native Travis Rilat will be among the other top contenders, as he makes his debut aboard the newly formed Archer Motorsports/F&J Construction machine. Other top shoes expected include Toby Brown, Wayne Pennington, Cody Branchcomb, A.G. Rains, many-time I-30 Speedway champion Lewis Jenkins, Jr., Foster Landon and Darren Stewart, who already has a pair of victories to his credit this season in weekly action at Little Rock and Memphis.
In conjunction with Saturday night's season opener, Chappell will also be appearing at the Love's Travel Stop in Prescott, AR, at I-30 and Highway 19 (I-30 Exit 46). Chappell will meet with fans and have his car on display from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday before going to nearby Southwest Arkansas Super Speedway.
Saturday night's season opener marks the first of more than 50 nights of racing at 27 different tracks throughout Arkansas, Iowa, Louisiana, Missouri, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Texas on the 2003 O'Reilly Auto Parts American Sprint Car Series National Tour presented by Love's Travel Stops & Country Stores and United Trailers.
Southwest Arkansas Super Speedway is located 4.8 miles south of Arkansas State Road 301 in Murfreesboro on State Road 27. Racing action is slated to begin at 8:00 p.m. For more information, contact the track at 870-845-5546 or 870-845-5390.
