"This is unbelievable," said Hockett. "I think my biggest payday before this was $1,500 for starting a big 360 race. It's a dream come true to even be out here running with these guys, let alone win. My crew chief (Daniel McMillin) and I are both 19 years old and we really didn't know what we were doing."
Bud Kaeding brought the BK Motorsports MAXIM home second at Lakeside's SCRA/NWWC event after winning the Jerry Weld Memorial the evening before.
In other wingless action, Matt Westfall won with his MAXIM Saturday night at the Lawrenceburg Speedway in Indiana. The win was Westfall's third of 2003 at Lawrenceburg.
Brandon Wimmer pulled off the win at Kokomo Speedway Sunday with the Great Lakes Outlaw Sprints Series. Wimmer's MAXIM led a dominating sweep at Kokomo, with Danny Smith, Kraig Kinser, Tom Busch and Chad Blonde all piloting MAXIM's to top five finishes.
Randi Miller picked up his sixth consecutive checkered flag Saturday evening, winning at Sweetwater Speedway with his MAXIM. When the checkered flag flew it was Miller leading with four MAXIM pilots rounding out the top five finishing spots. Patrick Bourke, Mike Dreiling, Eric Miller, and Geoff Dodge saw total Team MAXIM domination of the American Sprint Car Series Rocky Mountain Region event. Miller also won the night before at Casper with his MAXIM, leading Eric Miller and Mike Dreiling for the top three sweep.
Jason Meyers was a World of Outlaws sweeper at Grays Harbor with the VMAC MAXIM, winning both Friday and Saturday's A mains, while Steve Kinser padded his World of Outlaws Series point lead by taking the win at Cottage Grove with the Quaker State MAXIM.
Other Team MAXIM winners over the weekend include Gary Wright at Southwest Arkansas Super Speedway's ASCS event; Ken Mackey at Butler Motor Speedway with his fourth feature win of the season; Byron Reed won the 2003 Attica Raceway Park 410 point title; Mike Haggenbottom won the 25 lap URC event at Bridgeport Speedway; Clint Anderson won the WISSOTA feature at Black Hills Speedway; and Terry Gray took the sprint car feature at Memphis Motorsports Park.
