KNOXVILLE, IOWA (JULY 24, 2001) - Cory Kruseman of Ventura, Calif., has already done something this year which Danny Lasoski was unable to do. And that 'something' is that Cory has retained his number one ranking in the country from the spring to the summer in his division (non-winged) of the National Sprint Car Poll, as determined by the voting panel of manufacturers, media members, promoters and sanctioning officials. Kruseman, pilot of Harlan Willis' sprinter in Sprint Car Racing Association (SCRA) and United States Auto Club (USAC) competition, earned ten (10) of the twelve (12) first-place ballots cast in the "Salute to the USAC Indiana Sprintweek" summer edition of the National Non-Winged Sprint Car Poll. Kruseman has been dominant so far in 2001 and is the current SCRA point leader. He is also competing this week on the tough Pennzoil USAC-sanctioned Indiana Sprintweek circuit and has entered the Front Row Topless Challenge on Monday, August 6, at the Southern Iowa Fairgrounds in Oskaloosa, Iowa.
Ranked second in the non-winged poll is the recently-injured Richard Griffin of Silver City, N.M. Griffin is currently second to Kruseman is SCRA points, although he is expected to miss a considerable portion of the remaining regular racing season due to his serious arm injury. Rounding out the top five non-winged sprint car drivers in the country are J.J. Yeley of Phoenix, Ariz., Dave Darland of Walton, Ind., and Tony Elliott of Kokomo, Ind. USAC point leader Darland garnered the other two (2) first place votes cast. Last year's "Driver of the Year" in the National Non-Winged Sprint Car Poll, Jay Drake of Val Verde, Calif., has shown recent on-track improvement and is currently ranked sixth in the nation.
Danny 'the Dude' Lasoski topped the spring National 410 Sprint Car Poll, but gave up the top spot to Mark Kinser in the summer edition of the winged sprint car racing poll. Both the National Non-Winged Sprint Car Poll and the National 410 Sprint Car Poll are official awards programs of the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame & Museum Foundation, Inc.
