Dave Darland & Cory Witherill enter Oval Nationals!
(LAKE PERRIS, CA - OCTOBER 30, 2002) Two more racing stars entered the 7th Annual Temecula Valley Pipe and Supply $100,000.00 - 100-Lap Budweiser Oval Nationals at Perris Auto Speedway on October 31st, November 1st & 2nd. Veteran USAC Open Wheel Star Dave Darland of Lincoln, Indiana and Infiniti Pro Series racer Cory Witherill of Santa Monica are the two latest entries for the celebrated event.
Darland, 36, has three USAC titles to his credit. He won his first USAC Crown in 1997 when he topped the Silver Crown standings. He followed that up with a triumph in the National Sprint Car Series in 1999. Last year, Darland won his first ever USAC National Midget Series Championship
As usual, Darland has had a stellar year in 2002. In the USAC National Midget Series, he leads J.J. Yeley by 86 points with three races to go and has posted wins at Anderson & Salem in Indiana and at the prestigious Belleville (Kansas) Nationals for the second time in his career. The likable veteran took 5th in the 2002 USAC Sprint Car Series and was 15th in Silver Crown points.
Witherill, 30, who started 31st and finished 19th in the 2001 Indianapolis 500, spent most of the 2002 campaign racing in the Infiniti Pro Series. Witherill collected his first IPS win at Nashville, Tennessee and finished fourth overall in IPS points.
Both Darland and Witherill will be in cars owned by Cory Witherill Racing.
Spectator gates will open at 4:00 PM each night with racing beginning at 7:00 PM on Thursday and Friday and at 6:05 PM on Saturday.
