(LAKE PERRIS, CA - SEPTEMBER 10) The richest race in Non Wing Sprint Car Racing history, The Temecula Valley Pipe and Supply $100,000.00, 100-Lap Budweiser Oval Nationals, is still seven weeks away, but competitors will begin final adjustments for the historic race this Saturday night at Perris Auto Speedway.

The much anticipated Oval Nationals (October 31st, November 1st & 2nd) is garnering media attention from around the USA. Many of the nation's top non wing sprint car drivers will be making the sojourn west to challenge the locals at the nation's number one clay oval stadium on that historic weekend.

After Vista Paint presents the NAPA Auto Parts/Auto Trader Magazines SCRA Sprint Cars at The PAS this Saturday night, there will only be one more event for the drivers of the 800 horsepower open wheel cars to test the track before the 100-lap grind at the Oval Nationals. That will come on the first weekend in October.

Getting the "Monkey Off His Back," Silver City, New Mexico's Richard "The Gassman" Griffin won the last SCRA race at The PAS on Labor Day weekend. It was Griffin's sixth SCRA win of the season, but his first of the year at The PAS. In fact, the 38-year old veteran, who will win his fourth SCRA title in 2002, had not won at The PAS in 21 straight outings dating back to 2001. Despite the fact that PAS victories have eluded the popular Griffin in 2002, he is considered one of the pre-race favorites at the Oval Nationals. In addition to leading the SCRA standings, Griffin is setting the pace atop the point ledger in Ron Shuman's Non Wing World Championship Series. The Oval Nationals will be the next to last round of the Non Wing World Championship.

Griffin carries a bulging 369-point advantage in the SCRA point standings heading into Saturday's race. Defending Series Champion Cory Kruseman is second. The 31-year old star from Ventura has won races in a variety of cars across the USA this year and may be in line for a regular ride in the Indy Racing League for 2003.

Third in the points is first year SCRA sensation Damion Gardner of Concord. After competing in Northern California in the Golden State Championship Series, Gardner is not considered a rookie. Nevertheless, his stand on the throttle "Hard" style has made him a favorite of fans across the nation. It has also netted him three main event wins this year.

Spectator gates will open at 4:00 PM on Saturday.

September is "Back to School Month" at The PAS. For every Junior ticket (ages 13-17) purchased, fans will receive one free Junior ticket (must be used the same night). For every Chalderns ticket purchased (ages 6-12), fans will receive one free Chalderns ticket (must be used the same night). All kids 5 and under are admitted free.

Don't forget that at intermission the entire family can dance in The PAS Dance Contest with prizes for the winning dancers ages 12 and under.

Perris Auto Speedway is the world's premiere clay oval stadium. The fan friendly track features an amazing 60,000-watt digital sound system, daytime bright lighting, a wide variety of delicious food, clean restrooms and paved spectator parking. Best of all, the track supplies clean, wholesome family entertainment every Saturday night.

Advance tickets for Saturday's race are on sale now by calling 1-800-595-4TIX (4849) or by going to the PAS website at and clicking on the online tickets icon.

Perris Auto Speedway is conveniently located on the Lake Perris Fairgrounds approximately one hour east of Los Angeles. Take the 215 Freeway, exit at the Ramona Expressway and go east two and a half miles to the fairgrounds.
