Kruseman looks for the SCRA hat trick at the PAS!

(LAKE PERRIS, CA - APRIL 22, 2002) While the National Hockey League playoffs are going hot and heavy around North America, another athlete will be trying to score a different type of hat trick when Vista Paint presents the NAPA Auto Parts/Auto Trader Magazines SCRA Sprint Cars at Perris Auto Speedway this Saturday night. That athlete is Ventura's Cory Kruseman and he will be out to win his third straight main event at the popular Riverside County clay oval stadium.

Saturday's event will be the sixth SCRA race of the year at The PAS and thus far, only the 31-year old Kruseman has stood on top of the victory podium more than one time. Could this be a repeat performance of last season? In 2001, the personable driver won an astounding 12 main events at The PAS including an amazing streak of six in a row that stretched from June 2nd to August 18th. In addition, if Kruseman samples the thrill of victory on Saturday, it will be his 55th lifetime SCRA win. That will time his for first overall with 25-year veteran Rip Williams of Yorba Linda.

To say that Kruseman's last win at The PAS on April 13th was not an easy one would be the understatement of the year. After starting third, Kruseman, the proud father of a 10-month old daughter, wrestled the lead away from three times SCRA Champion Richard "The Gassman" Griffin on lap 18. From that point on it became a three-way fight for the point position with the 38-year old Griffin and Torrance driver Mike Kirby. When the checkers came down Kruseman had the victory, but all three would have fit under a blanket as they crossed the line.

The victory allowed Kruseman, the 2001 SCRA Champion, to take the lead in the point standings for the first time this year. Tony Jones, who was leading the points, was marching towards the front of the pack when he was spun out by another driver and had to restart at the back. Jones, who now resides in Garden Grove, clawed his way back to a seventh place finish, but his lead in the points turned into a seven-point deficit behind new leader Kruseman.

All of SCRA's top stars will be on hand on Saturday night and a former series regular will join them. Troy Cline, who last won at The PAS in February of 2000, will be flying back from North Carolina to drive for Arcadia's Dwight Cheney. Cline moved to the Southeast over the winter in hopes advancing his racing career and hopefully one day landing a ride in NASCAR Winston Cup. The Cheney #21J Cline will be driving on Saturday is the car that 2001 USAC Stoops Freightliner series champion J.J. Yeley chauffeured to the victory at the 2002 SCRA season opener at The PAS on February 9th.

Spectator gates will open at 4:00 PM on Saturday and the first race will be at 7:00.

Perris Auto Speedway is the world's premiere clay oval stadium. The fan friendly track features an amazing 60,000-watt digital sound system, daytime bright lighting, a wide variety of delicious food, spotless clean restrooms and paved spectator parking. Best of all, the track supplies clean, wholesome family entertainment every Saturday night.

The PAS is pleased to announce that it will play host to the Freestylemx.com tour on Friday May 3rd. Among the entrants are X-Games Gold Medallists Kenny Bartram and Tommy Clowers.
