Sprint Car Racing Association headlines Summer Dirt Cup at LVMS.

LAS VEGAS-- Race fans will see plenty of mud-slinging, dirt-throwing action at Saturday's Summer Dirt Cup at Las Vegas Motor Speedway's half-mile dirt oval.

The non-winged Sprint Car Racing Association (SCRA), which is making its return to LVMS after a five-year break, will headline the event with a 30-lap main event. The I.M.C.A. Modifieds (15 laps) and local Outlaw Thunderstocks (10 laps) also will compete in feature events.

Veteran driver Rip Williams, who captured both checkered flags at LVMS in 1997, is one of the SCRA stars looking to conquer the clay oval. Williams's record for all-time SCRA main event wins was recently broken Saturday, at Perris Auto Speedway in Perris, Calif., by Cory Kruseman of Ventura, Calif. Kruseman and Williams of Yorba Linda, Calif. are currently third and fifth respectively in the SCRA point standings. Steve Ostling of Corona, Calif., leads the SCRA standings.

Local drivers Dan Fitzgerald, Mark Allison, Jason Pike and Rick Durica will be among the top local challengers in the IMCA event.

Gates open at 5 p.m. Tickets for adults are $15. Senior citizens, military personnel and high school students with identification are $10. Admission for children ages 6-12 is $5. Children under five are free.
