(MARCH 10, 2003) This Saturday night Perris Auto Speedway presents a dream evening of racing for open wheel racing fans as Temecula Valley Pipe and Supply and Vista Paint present the NAPA Auto Parts/Auto Trader Magazines SCRA Sprint Cars in a program that will include two thirty lap SCRA main events on the fast Riverside County clay oval. Fans will get 60 laps of main event action for the price they normally pay for one 30-lapper!
The first main event will be the rained out feature from March 1st. It will take place just after qualifying. Norwalk, California veteran Mike English will start on the pole with current point leader & new father (6 lbs 5 oz. baby girl named Logan) Troy Rutherford (Ojai) starting on the outside of the front row. Corona's Steve Ostling, the 2002 Kindoll Classic Champion, and Lomita's Verne Sweeney will be in row two. The third row will be comprised of crowd favorite Damion Gardner of Concord and four-time SCRA Champion Richard Griffin from New Mexico. Taking up residence in the fourth row will be former Oval Nationals Champions Rickie Gaunt of Torrance and Ford powered Rodney Argo of El Segundo. Other stars, including SCRA's all-time victory leader Rip Williams of Yorba Linda, Garden Grove's Tony Jones, who is second in points, and Illinois ace Levi Jones, will be coming from deep in the field.
After the first main event, a complete regular show featuring four ten lap heat races, preliminary mains, a dash and another 30 lap main event will take place.
In addition to the Sprint Car program the Pick-A-Part Cruisers will also be in action on Saturday with a pair of heats and a 12-lap main event. Cruisers are unique in that the person in the driver seat controls the steering wheel and the brakes while the person in the passenger seat controls the throttle. The last time the Cruisers ran with SCRA, popular Sprint Car drivers Rickie Gaunt and Mike Kirby jumped into a car and won the main event.
Spectator gates at will open at 4:00 PM and qualifying will start at 5:00.
Don't forget that at intermission the entire family can dance in The PAS Dance Contest with prizes for the winning dancers ages 12 and under.
