ASCS Rocky Mountain Region set for weekend triple

TULSA, Okla. (June 16, 2003) - The American Sprint Car Series Rocky Mountain Region is ready for a full slate of racing action this coming weekend, with Friday night's event at Black Hills Speedway in Rapid City, SD, kicking off three nights of racing. On Saturday night, the series moves on to Gillette (WY) Thunder Speedway, before putting the wraps on the weekend Sunday night at Sheridan (WY) Speedway.

Rapid City, SD, shoe Randi Miller is off to a strong start in ASCS Rocky Mountain Region action in 2003, blazing a trail to victory lane in four of the series' five events held thus far. Coming off an "A" Feature starting berth in this past weekend's Knoxville 360 Nationals, Miller seeks to pad his win total in this coming weekend's triple set.

Despite Miller's impressive win rate, defending ASCS Rocky Mountain Region champion Mike Dreiling of Highlands Ranch, CO, is a close second in points, only 34 points off the pace. Dreiling is keeping his hopes of a second straight championship very much alive, as he has finished in the top five in four of five events, with a sixth place showing in the other event.

Eric Miller of Thornton, CO, is just 20 points further back in third, with C.J. Johnson of Quinter, KS, a close fourth. Jace Pennetta of Littleton, CO, rounds out the current top five in ASCS Rocky Mountain Region points.

Other contenders expected for this weekend's action include Nick Haygood, Jake Pierson, Geoff Dodge and Mason Hill among others.

This weekend's triple-header will bring the ASCS Rocky Mountain Region season total to eight races of 26 scheduled nights of action for the ASCS Rocky Mountain Region in 2003 throughout South Dakota, Kansas, Wyoming, New Mexico, Colorado and Montana.

Black Hills Speedway is located three miles south of I-90 Exit 61 in South Dakota, then 0.5 miles east on SR 44, then north. For additional information, contact the track at (605) 393-1552.
