ASCS Rocky Mountain Region Ready for Thunder Mountain
TULSA, Okla. (May 23, 2005) -- The American Sprint Car Series Rocky Mountain Region is set for two big nights of racing action as the series takes to Thunder Mountain Speedway in Olathe, CO, this Saturday and Sunday night.
Twenty-year-old Jake Pierson of Bellvue, CO, finds himself atop the series point charts for the first time entering the weekend double after topping this past Friday night's event at Black Hills Speedway in Rapid City, SD.
Pierson enters the weekend with a slim eight-point lead over Snohomish, WA, transplant Gary Taylor, with Nick Haygood just four more points back in third. Rounding out the current top five are Bob Schaeffer and Eric Miller.
Other top ASCS Rocky Mountain Region contenders expected for the weekend include defending series champion Keith Rauch, former champion Randi Miller, opening night winner Patrick Bourke, Scott Milan, Jeff Heffner, John Jacob and rookie candidate Josh Fellows.
Racing action is set to get underway at 7:00 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday night. Thunder Mountain Speedway is located three miles north of Olathe, CO, on US 50, then 0.7 mile east on Amber Road. For more information, contact the track at 930-323-6494.
The 2005 ASCS Rocky Mountain Region slate consists of 19 events at ten different tracks throughout Colorado, Kansas, New Mexico, South Dakota and Wyoming.
In total, including the O'Reilly ASCS National Tour, the Southern Tour and the Sooner, Gulf South, Rocky Mountain and Midwest Regions, the American Sprint Car Series will sanction nearly 120 nights of racing in 2005 at approximately 50 different racetracks throughout at least 16 different states.
