OLATHE, Col. (May 29, 2004) - Randi Miller held off Patrick Bourke in the early stages then fought off Keith Rauch over the final rounds to win Saturday night's American Sprint Car Series Rocky Mountain Region preliminary feature at Thunder Mountain Speedway.
Starting on the front row outside, Miller outgunned polesitter Eric Miller to snare the early lead. Bourke quickly advanced from fourth and challenged R. Miller for the point until he looped his machine in turn three on the seventh round.
Miller resumed his quick pace aboard Mac White's Carbone-powered Two Dot Tech No. 2d Maxim on the restart, with seventh starter Rauch moving up to challenge. Rauch pulled alongside on several occasions but was unable to complete the move, allowing Miller to notch his second series triumph of the season in as many events. Rauch took the runner-up slot, with E. Miller in third.
Nick Haygood crossed the stripe in fourth, but was disqualified when his car failed to meet the minimum weight requirement after the feature. Mike Dreiling assumed the fourth and final lock-in position to Sunday night's main event, with T.J. Thorne rounding out the top five.
Greg Schaefer charged from 14th to claim sixth, with Brian Jamison, Jace Pennetta, 15th-starter Geoff Dodge and 18th-starter Scott Roberts completing the top ten.
E. Miller, R. Miller and Jace Pennetta each claimed heat race victories.
