ASCS Rocky Mountain Region Ready for Hollywood Hills Double
TULSA, Okla. (August 11, 2008) -- The American Sprint Car Series Rocky Mountain Region takes center stage with a pair of events atop the 3/8-mile Hollywood Hills Speedway clay oval in San Felipe Pueblo, NM, this weekend.
And the series title is hanging in the balance with this pair of pivotal events on Friday and Saturday.
Hailing from nearby Albuquerque, 17-year-old Derrik Ortega enters the weekend holding the current series points lead. Collecting a pair of feature wins this season, including one in the series most recent outing on July 12, Ortega holds a 22-point lead with a half dozen events remaining.
Ortega's primary challenger for championship honors is 19-year-old Chad Corken of Highlands Ranch, CO, who will try to rebound from a Saturday night crash during the recent ASCS Knoxville Nationals that mangled his machine.
Montana's Jeremy McCune has climbed to third in points on the strength of several strong recent runs, including a runner-up showing on July 12, with Bob Schaeffer of New Castle, CO, and 16-year-old Jake Ossenfort of Rapid City, SD, rounding out the current top five in points.
The balance of the current top ten includes 18-year-old Colt Treharn (Las Lunas, NM), 19-year-old Danielle Ossenfort (Rapid City, SD), Dustin Hall (West Valley City, UT), Justin Wolf Medlock (Colorado Springs, CO) and Michelle Dodge (Billings, MT), with Billings racer Jerry Brey just five points out of the top ten.
Albuquerque's Johnny Herrera swept the ASCS Rocky Mountain Region's June 27-28 double at Hollywood Hills Speedway to run his series' undefeated streak to nine a row dating back to 2005.
Friday's action at Hollywood Hills Speedway gets under way at 7:30 p.m., with Saturday's finale firing off at 7:00 p.m.
Hollywood Hills Speedway is located between Albuquerque and Santa Fe off I-25 Exit 252, then 0.2 miles east. For more information, contact the track at 505-867-6700.
The eighth year of action for the American Sprint Car Series Rocky Mountain Region is slated to consist of 15 events at a half dozen tracks throughout Colorado, New Mexico, Wyoming and Nebraska in 2008.
