TULSA, Okla. (May 19, 2008) -- The American Sprint Car Series Rocky Mountain region kicks off its eighth consecutive season of racing action with this weekend's double dip at Thunder Mountain Speedway in Olathe, CO.

The series takes to the semi-banked, 1/3-mile Thunder Mountain Speedway clay oval at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday night before putting the wraps on opening weekend with Sunday's 2:00 p.m. matinee event.

This weekend's double kicks off a full slate of 17 events throughout Colorado, New Mexico and Wyoming and Nebraska for the ASCS Rocky Mountain Region in 2008.

Last year, C.J. Johnson of Quinter, KS, became the seventh different ASCS Rocky Mountain Region champion in as many years, adding his name to a list of series champions that includes Patrick Bourke (2006), Gary Taylor (2005), Keith Rauch (2004), Randi Miller (2003), Mike Dreiling (2002) and Nick Haygood (2001).

Capturing a win at Thunder Mountain Speedway can bode well, as each of the ten features that have been contested at the Olathe oval have been topped by drivers that lay claim to an ASCS Rocky Mountain Region championship.

In addition to a host of championship contenders, a number of Rookie of the Year contenders will take in this weekend's action as well.

Among those vying for Rookie of the Year honors along with the series title will be Montana's Jeremy McCune, New Mexico racers Derrik Ortega and Colt Treharn and South Dakota siblings Danielle and Jake Ossenfort.

Thunder Mountain Speedway is located three miles north of Olathe, CO, on US 50, then 0.7 miles east on Amber Road. For more information, contact the track at 970-323-6494.
