TULSA, Okla. (August 15, 2006) -- It will be a blend of something new along with something familiar as the American Sprint Car Series Rocky Mountain Region fires back into action in Colorado and Wyoming this weekend.
On Friday night, the series brings the thrills and chills of Sprint Car racing to the semi-banked, 0x00bc-mile Hayden Speedway dirt oval in Hayden, CO, for the first time in track history. Then on Saturday night, the series moves on to Sweetwater Speedway in Rock Springs, WY, for the second time this season.
Closing in on his first series championship, Patrick Bourke of Edwards, CO, leads the way into the weekend with a 116-point advantage over Denver's Jeff Heffner in the championship points chase. Loveland, CO, racer Josh Fellows, who celebrated his 17th birthday last Thursday, enters the weekend ranked fourth, with former series champ Keith Rauch and three-time series runner up Eric Miller, both of Thornton, CO, rounding out the current top five.
Centennial, CO, racer Nick Haygood, also a past ASCS Rocky Mountain Region champion, enters the weekend ranked sixth, with the balance of the current top ten including 16-year-old Rookie shoe Ricky Montgomery (Lakewood, CO), Mark Sweet (Rock Springs, WY), John Jacob (Aurora, CO) and Jake Pierson (Bellvue, CO).
Oregon's Danny Horner topped the series June 17 event at Sweetwater Speedway.
