Eric Miller Takes ASCS Rocky Mountain Region Point Lead with First Win of Season

RAPID CITY, S.D. (September 11, 2004) - Eric Miller picked an opportune time to win his first American Sprint Car Series Rocky Mountain Region feature of the season by topping Saturday night's 30-lapper at Black Hills Speedway to move atop the series point standings.

With the victory, Miller moved atop the ASCS Rocky Mountain Region championship point charts for the first time this season, holding a six-point advantage over 14th-place finisher Keith Rauch with just three events remaining on the 2004 slate.

Starting the feature from the front row outside, Rauch jumped into the early lead with polesitter Mike Pennell on his heels. Pennell began to slow after several laps, allowing sixth-starter Miller to take over second.

After a lap four caution, Miller made his move past Rauch to take command. Rauch would begin to lose positions and surrendered the point lead when he retired pitside after 28 laps.

Miller held off Ron Rosenboom's advances through lapped traffic over the final rounds to post the victory aboard the David Miller-owned PJM Services No. 4 Maxim. Rosenboom settled for second, with Nick Haygood advancing from tenth to claim third.

Jake Pierson crossed the stripe fourth, with Josh Ostermiller racing from 13th to round out the top five. Clint Anderson turned in the feature's top passing performance by charging from 21st to finish sixth, with 15th-starter Jeremy Sheaffer, Jace Pennetta, Walt Hamilton and 18th-starter Scott Roberts completing the top ten.

Pennell, Rauch and Rosenboom each claimed heat race victories.

Randi Miller, Ned Powers and Brad Meuli all scratched from competition after mechanical woes in hot laps.
