Rilat ready to challenge for ASCS National Championship.
ASCS - TULSA, Okla. (April 2, 2003) - Travis Rilat will be pursuing the 2003 ASCS national championship with a new look, as he and Archer Motorsports have teamed with Fred and Jo Threatt's F&J Construction team to compete on the O'Reilly Auto Parts American Sprint Car Series National Tour presented by Love's Travel Stops & Country Stores and United Trailers.
Rilat will be among the leading contenders for this year's ASCS National championship, which will be worth $20,000 in point fund money, plus contingencies.
A former Rookie of the Year with not only the American Sprint Car Series in 1998, but also the NCRA (2000) and All-Stars (2001), Rilat drove the Chris Archer-owned machine to top-ten finishes in points with both the ASCS and NCRA circuits last season.
Along with three ASCS national tour feature victories in 2002, Rilat also scored the biggest victory of his career last August, collecting a $30,000 paycheck by topping the nation's top non-winged drivers to win the Non-Winged Ultimate Challenge at Oskaloosa, IA.
Recently, Rilat and Archer agreed to join forces with Fred and Jo Threatt's team. Much like the Archer Motorsports team, the Threatt's F&J Construction team has been prominent on the national scene in recent years, winning the ASCS national title in 2000, then finishing fourth in Gumout Series points last year. The team also claimed preliminary victories at Knoxville's 360 Nationals and the ASCS Devil's Bowl Nationals.
The teaming of Archer Motorsports with Fred and Jo Threatt will find Rilat pursuing his first major series championship. Rilat will drive the No. 29 Snyder-powered, Hoosier-shod Eagle chassis, with sponsorship from F&J Construction, Haulmark Trailers, Ten Hagen Excavating, Archer Motorsports, TSR Motorsports Trailer Sales, Snyder and Eagle.
The team will debut Saturday night, April 12, at the season opening event for the O'Reilly Auto Parts American Sprint Car Series National tour presented by Love's Travel Stops & Country Stores and United Trailers at Southwest Arkansas Super Speedway in Murfreesboro, AR.
The Saturday night, April 12, season opener marks the first of more than 50 nights of racing on the 2003 ASCS National Tour at 27 different tracks throughout Arkansas, Iowa, Louisiana, Missouri, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Texas.
Including the ASCS Regional Tours (Sooner, Gulf South and Rocky Mountain), the American Sprint Car Series will sanction more than 100 nights of racing at nearly 50 tracks throughout 14 states in 2003. More than $85,000 in point fund money, plus contingencies, will be distributed at season's end.
