Malabar Missile Leads ASCS Rebel Region to Green Valley
TULSA, Okla. (May 19, 2008) -- Kenny Adams leads a host of hotshoes into Saturday night's American Sprint Car Series Rebel Region event atop the semi-banked, 3/8-mile Green Valley Speedway clay oval in Glencoe, AL.
Saturday's card at Green Valley Speedway is a makeup of the event originally scheduled for April 5, which fell victim to rain.
From Malabar, FL, Adams is out to the early series points lead after recording top five finishes in each of the series' opening three events of the season.
But after topping the $3,000-to-win season opener at Alabama's Deep South Speedway in February, a pair of young guns have taken the most recent wins with Bryn Gohn and Danny Martin, Jr., reaching victory lane in last month's Florida double.
While Adams holds the points lead entering Saturday night, it's a narrow one with 22-year-old Martin, 19-year-old Matt Tiffany, 22-year-old Gohn and 18-year-old Samantha Taylor all within striking distance as only 50 markers separate the top five in points.
Veteran Florida shoe Red Stauffer is just another ten points back in sixth, with the balance of the top ten including Frank Carlsson, Matt Kurtz, defending series champion T.J. Winegardner and Michael Miller.
The Memphis-area contingent found Green Valley Speedway to their liking last year, with Wade Oliver and Brad Bowden both scoring ASCS Rebel Region wins atop the Glencoe clay. Bowden added his second career Regional victory with a Coastal Region triumph in Mississippi over the past weekend.
Saturday's action at Green Valley Speedway fires off at 8:00 p.m.
Green Valley Speedway is located near Gadsen, AL, in Glencoe, 4.5 miles southeast of US 278 on US 431, then four miles southwest of Green Valley Road. For more information, contact the track at 256-504-6086.
The ASCS Rebel Region is currently slated for 17 nights of action at 15 different tracks throughout Georgia, Florida, Alabama, North Carolina and Mississippi in 2008.
