Randy Anderson finds home with Smith #86.
Randy Anderson from Clarion, Iowa has been named as the new driver of the Jerry and Jeff Smith 86 sprinter. The team, based in Columbia, Missouri, will compete for the 2002 Knoxville Raceway 410 Sprint Car title. Anderson, who finished fourth in the final point standings last season at Knoxville, replaces Matt Moro from Des Moines, Iowa in the sprinter.
"This whole deal came together in just a few days. We're just real excited and are really looking forward to the upcoming season. Randy has already been down and has been fitted for both cars," Smith related via telephone on Wednesday evening.
The team will utilize Eagle Chassis, Goodyear tires, and JS Machine engines for the upcoming season. They will have sponsorship from Dee Zee Truck Equipment, Engler Machine and Tool,and Delano Oil. They will be concentrating primarily on the Knoxville title, but will also run selected 410 shows in the area as well as a handful of 360 shows, including the 2002 ASCS Advance Auto Parts 360 Nationals at the Knoxville Raceway on June 13-15.
Steve Gennetten has piloted the Smith 86 the past two seasons and finished 23rd in the final point standings in 2001. Gennetten retired at the end of the 2001 season.
