Sodus, NY - For the second week in a row, rain forced postponement of the opening race of the 2000 Woodard's Concrete Products/Central New York Mini Sprint (CNYMS) Tour. Two weeks ago, what was to have been the first race of the 10th anniversary season was washed out at Accord Speedway, and the pattern repeated itself on May 19th, when storms rumbled through northern Pennsylvania and over Penn Can Speedway. The Accord race has been rescheduled to June 16th, and CNYMS officials will be talking with Penn Can promoters to finalize arrangements for a make-up date at that facility. The next stop of the CNYMS tour will be the Devil's Bowl Speedway in Fair Haven, Vermont on May 28th. The Memorial Day weekend event will not only be the first stop on the 2000 Dow Corning/Kaman Industrial Technologies CVRA Mini Sprint Challenge Cup Series, but will now also serve as the tour opener. Just last week, organizers of the Challenge Cup announced HSBC Bank had signed on as an additional series sponsor. The support of HSBC has resulted in an increase in the purse for the Cup opener. Based on a 24-car field, the feature race will pay $650 to win, and $75 to take the green flag. Race entry fee will be $35, with $25 returned to non-qualifiers as tow money. The Challenge Cup is sanctioned by CNYMS, so their rules apply. The race is open to 750 cc machines as well as the 1200 cc cars, and there will be a cash bonus to the top three finishing 750's. $50 will be paid to the highest finishing 750, $30 to the next, and $20 to the third. Additional contingency prizes will be awarded to feature finishers.
