Greg Hodnett of Memphis, Tennessee won the Tuscarora 50 for Aumiller & Associate Sprint Cars Saturday night Sept. 11 at Port Royal, PA Speedway. Hodnett withstood numerous cautions for spins and several red flags for wrecks that stopped the field. The Apple Motorsports/Cars By Dealers race team earned $ 10, 000 dollars. Hodnett could have easily been standing in Victory Lane for the second year in a row, and mentioned how he lost last years 50 at the end of the race. " Yea, we feel like this place might owe us one, " began Hodnett. " Last year we blew a motor when we thought we had the race won. That's the way it goes some times. I want to thank J& J Chassis and our shock company. They are our choice. My owner isn't here tonight. I think he was mad after last night. We'll call him and tell him how we did. " Hodnett and Speedway PR Director Craig Rutherford were soaked by Hodnett's crew with a champaign bath in post race ceremonies. Mark Smith drove the Zemco Speed Equipment no. 1 to a second place finish. Todd Shaffer was third. Rick Lafferty finished fourth with Lance DeWease fifth.. Fred Rahmer, Friday night's winner was sixth. Completing the top ten were Todd Hestor, Kenny Jacobs, Donnie Kreitz and Kevin Nouse. Heats for the 33 car field were won by Hodnett, Lafferty, Kreitz, and Jacobs. Craig Keel won the 12 lap B-Main.
Steve Campbell won the 20 Lap Ramsey's Car Wash/AB Auto Glass Late Model feature over Dave Kepner. Campbell led every lap. Nick Dickson was third with Jere Wierman fourth. Visitor Alan Sagi was fifth. Completing the top ten were Scotty Haus, Mike Hess, Mith Hack, Shane Garman and Kirk Baker. There were 22 cars. Heats were won by Sagi and Haus.
The nights program was presented by Ramsey's Car Wash, AB Auto Glass and Regester Chevrolet. Aumiller & Associates, Hartley's Potato Chips, One Stop Communications, The NASCAR Shop, Sutliff Hummer of Harrisburg, Comfort Suites and Sleep Inn Of State College all presented contingency awards. Speedway personnel thank all for their support.
Coming this Saturday night September 18 is the first annual Butch Renninger Memorial Small Car Nationals for Stong Auto Parts Pro Stocks, Parson's Auto Salvage/Casner Service Center 4 Cyl. Stock Cars, Pizza & Sub Shack Enduro Cars and Zimmerman Truck Lines Ladies Powder Puff racers. Large purses are planned for all classes. The winning Pro Stock driver can win $1,533 dollars. Gates open at 5:00 P.M. with racing at 7.
