Port Royal, Pa Bill Powell, the 2002 Stong's Auto Parts Pro Stock Champion at Port Royal Speedway, won his divisions portion of the Small Car Invitational here Saturday night September 14. Powell started second and was chased the entire way by Scott Dorman of Pleasant Gap, Pa. Jim Palm finished third while Gary BeWard came home fourth. Jason Schmidt completed the top five. Sixth through tenth were Eric Cauffman, Todd Snook, John Heane, Brad Trump, and A.J. Stroup. Heats were won by Dave Leahy and BeWard. There were 19 cars.
Vince Snyder of Strodes Mills won the 305 Sprint Car feature over Nathan Gramley. George Johnston finished third with Ryan Linn fourth. Scott Ellerman was fifth. Rounding out the top ten were Chris Meleason, Rob Mellott, Justin Siegler, Tim Bilger and Todd Spangler. Heats for the 19 car field were won by Allman and Travis Keeney. The pair were disqualified after their feature event. Keeney crossed the finish line second while Allman originally finished sixth. Both were light on the scales, failing to make weight. They were paid last place money.
Neil Foust and Bill Powell hooked up in the nights most exciting race. The 30 lap Enduro Dash was won by Foust after the pair traded the lead through lapped traffic.Jason Zook finished third with Butch Renninger fourth. Craig Imes completed the top five. Gary Cekovich, Adam Yetter, Ben Hosler, Jan Powell and Steve Clemens were also in the top ten.
John Stull Jr. won the 12 lap 4 cylinder Pure Stock feature. Dave Bowsman was second. Kyle Parson finished third with Steve McCartney fourth. Joe Jacubic placed fifth. Sixth through tenth were Jeremy McCartney, Derek Casner, Brian Casner, Zeb Page, and Terry Naugle. Heats were won by Jacubic and Bowsman.
The Ladies Powder Puff event was checker flagged at the half way point due to rain. Ashley Deihl led every lap to get the win. Donna Rowley followed in second. Holly Brenneman was third with Teresa Kepner fourth. Nikki Dalton ran fifth. Sixth through tenth were Heidi Hart, Amanda Dalton, Rhonda Hutchinson, Nicole Artz and Tammy Wilson.
The nights program was a success. It also concluded the regular season. One special race remains on the 2002 schedule.
The Pennzoil World of Outlaws invade Port Royal Sunday night September 29. The entire grandstand is reserved for this special show. Tickets are on sale by contacting the speedway office at (717)-527-2303. Tickets may be charged using Master Card or Visa.
The Port Royal Speedway management and Race Director Tom Little thank everyone who made the 2002 season a success. Plans are under way for the awards banquet which is tentatively being planned for January. Location and time will be released at a later date. Best wishes for a safe and happy off season.
