Placerville Speedway point race rained out - event post-poned
Final point racing weekend will now consist of double header for regular divisions
PLACERVILLE (9-5-98) - A freak thunderstorm forced the cancellation of the 16th championship point race at Alan Padjen's Placerville Speedway Saturday night. The event has been scheduled to resume this Friday, September 11 which will create a season-ending double header as the final point race of the season will take place Saturday night as well.
Prior to the remnants of hurricane "Ises" drifting over portions of the Sierra Foothills and washing out Saturday's activity, qualifying for the Pacific Sprint cars and the Midget Lites had taken place as well as heat races for the Pure Stock division. Friday's rescheduled event will be a continuation of this rain-out, therefore, there will be no qualifying for the Pacific Sprints and action will start with heat races using the original line-ups from Saturday. The one heat race that track officials attempted to run during the rainstorm has been stricken from the scoresheets and will be re-run along with the additional two.
In the Pure Stock division, since heat races were completed before the rain-out, action will consist of a 20-lap feature event next Friday. The Pro Stocks will compete in a complete program since no events had taken place during the evening. At press time, officials from the Bay Cities Racing Association were decided whether or not they would be able to return and join Friday's program.
Action is set to begin on Friday night with the front gates of the speedway opening at 6 p.m. and heat races beginning at 7. For any further information on this rescheduled event contact the office of John Padjen Motorsports at (916) 969-7484. Any changes in the Friday program will be announced as neccesary.
