Donovan Peterson has joined with Rhys and Pam Layton of Layton Performance and will pilot their 360 Sprint Car for the 2004 racing season. The combination will put the Brookings, South Dakota driver into the seat of the Layton ride, which is based out of the Iron Range in Northern Minnesota. "We've always liked his 'on the gas' and smooth style of racing," said Rhys Layton. "We're really glad he has decided to join us for the 2004 season.

Peterson has raced sparingly in the past few seasons and is looking forward to getting back behind the wheel of a race car full time in 2004. The team will not run for points with any organization but plans to run a wide variety of shows with the Wissota Sprints Series in the Upper Midwest. The number K9 team will utilize a brand new Avenger Chassis and a 360 Singer/Ostrich powerplant. Layton Performance has held several long time sponsors, including Mohawk Snowmobile Salvage, Griffith Construction, Johnson's Champion Auto and L & L Rental, which are all in Hibbing, Minnesota. These sponsors have stayed on board to support the team in 2004.

In 2003, Layton Performance garnered three wins with driver Greg Nikitenko, two coming against Wissota competition at Buffalo River Speedway in Glyndon, Minnesota and the other at Grove Creek Raceway in Grove City, Minnesota. The other win was against NOSA 410 competition at Nodak Speedway in North Dakota. The team is looking forward to a busy and fun filled summer of racing with their new driver.
