ASCS North/South Shootout A-Main at Penn Can Halted Four Laps in Due To Rain

Rich Vleck, SUSQUEHANNA, Pa., (June 8, 2007) - It had not rained all night at Penn Can Speedway, but when it hit at 9:50 p.m., Mother Nature made sure her presence was well known.

Four laps in to the first-ever 25-lap, $2,000-to-win ASCS Mid-Atlantic vs. Patriot Shootout at Penn Can Speedway, a massive thunderstorm struck the 3/8-mile and within seconds had gone from dry conditions to non-stop downpour for 30 minutes.

The race will be resumed from its current position, four laps in, on August 17 when the ASCS Patriot and Mid-Atlantic Regions return for a full program. The final 21 laps of Friday's feature will take place before any heats for the August 17 show.

While Geoff Quackenbush held off Bryan Howland for the lead in the opening laps, all eyes were on Chuck Hebing, who again was the top dog at Penn Can.

"The Cobra" won his heat, as well as the Rob's Market Pole Dash. He then decided to take Speedway Promoter Reed Miller's challenge to drop to the back, where if he won he would pick up a total of $3,000. After starting 22nd, Hebing was up to 9th at the time of caution on lap four.

Hebing will restart in eighth on August 17, as the car right in front of him in the running order, Blake Breen, will have to go the tail of the field after flipping his Pearl Technologies No. 8 to bring out the red flag that would ultimately halt action on an extremely muggy night.

Local favorite George Suprick will not be able to rejoin the field when the race gets back underway, as his No. 87 was suffering motor problems and fell two laps down before the rains hit.

Along with Hebing picking up National Parts Peddler heat wins, Justin Barger and Warren Alexson also scored victories.

The ASCS Patriots return to action for another double-header next week as they head to the Southwest quadrant of New York to the Stateline Speedway on Saturday and over to Eriez Speedway in Pennsylvania on Sunday. For more info, visit www.ASCSracing.com.
