Shuttleworth Shines in Hometown ASCS Patriot Go at McKean County

SMETHPORT, Penn. (July 8, 2006) - Chris Shuttleworth made the most of his pole starting position by racing to victory lane in Saturday night's 20-lap Bobcat of Buffalo ASCS Patriot Sprint Group feature at McKean County Raceway to capture his first career series victory.

"This is a dream come true," noted Shuttleworth in victory lane. "I know this track real well and the motor was running good."

The Wellsville, NY, racer started scratch in his heat but was able to finish fourth, ensuring the "Bone Shaker" the pole position for the "A" Main. He led Mike Stelter into the first corner and withstood his charges throughout the race to snare the win and become the series fifth different winner through the opening eight events of the season.

The only driver to battle with Shuttleworth for the lead, Stelter gave up second place in the closing laps to Ontario, NY, neighbor Chuck Hebing. "Cobra" started fourth in the feature but fell back early before finally hitting his stride to record his fifth top ten this season with the Patriots and the first that wasn't a win.

Stelter held on to finish third, getting back by hard-charging Jared Zimbardi in the closing laps to secure a spot on the proverbial podium.

Zimbardi was set to win heat three when he slipped up in turn three on the final lap and spun after contact with Don Adamczyk. Zimbardi still managed a second place finish, getting him into the redraw and allowing him to run the Jerge's Used Auto Parts of Belfast, NY, Dash for Cash, in which he would pick up the win. "The Juice" started tenth in his Hull Electric No. 35 in the feature and was able to work the topside of the 1/3-mile to capture his third consecutive fourth-place finish.

Dave Wickham returned to ASCS Patriot Sprint Group action with a strong fifth place finish in his National Parts Peddler No. 80, getting by Ray Preston on the final lap for his second top-five of the season.

Drivers finishing sixth through 10th in the feature received collectable Amsoil Mugs from Pro-Syn Oil Technologies, with Ray Preston picking up one for his sixth place efforts. Former area late-model driver John Schuyler recorded his best career finish with the ASCS Patriots by snaring seventh just ahead of Adamczyk and Rich Swarthout, who both came from the "B" main to finish eighth and ninth, respectively. Mike Lauterborn also moved forward to round out the top ten.

Jeremy Barnard, Preston and Nick Bashford each claimed heat race victories as 25 entries took part in the ASCS Patriot Sprint Group debut at McKean County Raceway. Swarthout won the "B" Main after running out of fuel in his heat race.

Two red flags flew during the night, both in the feature. Kyle Drum flipped on the third lap but was able to continue on. Rob Pietz flipped on the final lap after running over the cushion. Both drivers were uninjured.

One driver noticeably absent was 2005 Patriot Champion Bryan Howland, who missed the event due to family issues. The prayers of the ASCS Patriot Sprint Group are with the entire Howland family as Bryan's older brother John continues to battle cancer.

The Bobcat of Buffalo ASCS Patriot Sprint Group will return to McKean County Raceway on September 2 for a Bully Hill Nationals Dash Qualifying race. This will also be the final full-points race of the season making it the Championship event.
