ASCS Patriots Debut at McKean County on Saturday

TULSA, Okla. (July 5, 2006) - The last time sprint cars ran at the McKean County Raceway in Smethport, PA, the Patriot Sprint Group had not even been formed. But four years later the highly anticipated return of Sprint Car racing action is within reach.

This Saturday, July 8, the Bobcat of Buffalo ASCS Patriot Sprint Group will once again attempt to run atop the semi-banked, 1/3-mile clay oval, two months after rain brought what would have been the second race of the 2006 schedule to a halt.

Now seven races into the season, the ASCS Patriots have hit the halfway point of the season. So far this season there have been four different winners, including Chuck Hebing and Bryan Howland, who are locked in a point battle that should last the rest of the season.

Among some of the drivers that have yet to win this season with the Patriots but could be in position to strike on Saturday are Mike Stelter, Ray Preston and Nick Bashford. Stelter was the driver that captured the win at the last sprint car race at the 1/3-mile back in 2002. The Ontario, NY, driver has been close all year long and should be near the front once again this weekend.

Chris Shuttleworth and Geoff Quackenbush have run at the track already this year as part of an exhibition to promote the Patriot races in Northern Pennsylvania. Perhaps they picked up some valuable knowledge to apply Saturday.

You can expect a majority of the 3,000 seats in the grandstands to be filled when the "A" Main rolls around this Saturday, with racing action slated to get under way at 7:00 p.m.

McKean County Raceway is located at the junction of Routes 6 and 46, in East Smethport, Pa, only 15 miles south of The Hill Raceway or from the New York State Border. For more information, contact the track at 814-362-6909 or on race day at 814-887-2600.

The 2006 Bobcat of Buffalo ASCS Patriot Sprint Group schedule consists of 22 nights of racing at fourteen different tracks throughout New York, Pennsylvania and Canada.

In its 15th year of sanctioning Sprint Car racing in the United States, the American Sprint Car Series will present approximately 180 nights of racing in 2006 including the National Tour and its Regional Tours (Gulf South, Mid-South, Midwest, Northern Plains, Patriot Sprint Group, Rocky Mountain, Sooner, Southern and Sprints on Dirt).
