Grzelak, Glass, Shatzer and Pitt Win Path Valley Saturday Features
Spring Run, PA_ Tim Grzelak came clear from New Jersey to win his first 600cc Sprint feature Saturday at the Path Valley Speedway Park. A six-car inversion put young Grzelak on the pole and he stayed just ahead of Dave Emory and Terry Peters all the way to the checkers for his first win ever. The top five finishers were Grzelak, Dave Emory, Terry Peters, Ryan Greth, and Kyle Purks and Purks won the single heat race.
Rodney Glass of Ft. Loudon won in the 270cc Sprint make-up from June 2 and Dusty Shatzer of Hagerstown won the night's regular 270cc feature after starting second and passing Brian Walker in the early laps. Randy Pitt won the 250cc Sportsman Sprint water-cooled feature and Josh Watkins beat out Randy Hake for first and $100 in the two-car 250cc Sportsman air-cooled class.
Harry Garber of Barto continued to dominate the Central PA Legends starting sixth and passing newcomer Bob Lash and Ray Swank in the final few laps. The front five in the Legends were Garber, Swank, Lash, Donnie Potts, and Clint Penkauskas and Swank and Vern Smith won the heat races.
The All-Sprint Saturday Night races continue two more weeks at Path Valley with the final points race Sept. 22. The 270cc Sprints also race Friday night and their final race is Sept. 28.
The 358 Late Models will be the guest class next Friday night, Sept. 14.
The following Friday, Sept. 21, features Powder Puff races for the ladies who do not drive in a regular division. Points races for the Saturday night sprints continue until Sept. 23 because several classes were late getting started. The track races until the middle of October and the season climaxes with the Four-Cylinder Shootout for $1000 to win on Sept. 29.
The Second Annual Path Valley Speedway Park Combined Awards Banquet will be Saturday, Nov. 3, at the Pleasant Hall Fire Co. with doors open at 5 p.m. Tickets are limited to 400 and available from the track on a first-come first-sold basis. "Dodies" will cater the meal and the entertainment will be DJ Phantom Shadow.
The Path Valley Speedway Park is located in Spring Run PA a mile north on PA Route 641 from the intersection with PA Route 75, halfway between Port Royal and Hagerstown. It is five miles east from the Willow Hill Exit 14 of the PA Turnpike off Route 75.
