Spring Run, PA - Joe Davis of Lewistown in his brand new homemade 305 PA Sprint and Jeff Furlong of Selinsgrove in the 270cc PMP #17 Sprint rolled into victory lane Friday night at the Path Valley Speedway Park.
The night's first time ever winner was Dave Ricker of Marion who bested a full field in the four-cylinder thunder cars. Winning their fourth Path Valley features of the season were Jerry Bard of Shippensburg in the modified mini-stocks and Weston Alleman of Newburg in the V-8 street stocks. Past champion Brian Levan of Fleetwood won by less than a length ahead of the second and third place finishers in the Legends Cars.
The Friday night features were a preview for the five-event Labor Day Weekend that will feature racing Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Friday is a regular five-feature points race.
Next Saturday Sept 1 the afternoon karts and evening sprints are off as the AMA Motorcycle Short Track Series takes over with sanctioned races for up to 19 classes of motorcycles and four-wheelers. Gates open at 4 p.m. for the motorcycle races.
Next Sunday is the season's third Junk Car Race, with gates open at 10 a.m. and racing at noon. Labor Day Monday will be a no-points afternoon race for all five Friday night divisions and Saturday night 600 Sprints with the Vintage Car club as special guests.
The Friday night stock cars and sprints will race every Friday in September, but the final points race toward the season championships is Sept. 7.

Weston Alleman charged from fifth to take the street stock lead on lap three and he stretched out in the final non-stop laps to win by more than a turn ahead of Steve Bailor, Doug Hoffman, Greg Foster and Randy Patterson in the front five. Foster and Bailor won the heats.
Melvin Bigler led the first half of the thunder car feature and then Dave Ricker took over on lap ten. Amid lapped car traffic Jeremy McCartney took the lead on lap 12, but McCartney's #01 broke on lap 19 and Ricker held off Keith Armolt for the final two laps. The front five finishers were Ricker, Armolt, John Rasp III, Steve McCartney and Melvin Bigler. Keith Walls and Steve McCartney won the heats and Steve McCartney, Jeremy McCartney and Brenda McCartney finished the second heat one, two, three.
Brian Levan went wheel to wheel with Harry Garber and Tim Tomson to take the lead on lap four of the Legends feature and after only one caution they finished that way with less than a full car length between the three. After his second win at Path Valley on his limited racing schedule, Levan told the crowd, "These are great guys you can trust to race with. They don't make mistakes of spin you out." Levan, Jim Black and Tomson won the heats.
Jeff Furlong beat Jim Callahan to the finish by half the length of his #17 sprinter with Sean Good, Brandon Grandstaff and Jesse Snyder completing the front five. Dave Shirk, Jim Brookens and Butch Harrington won the heats.
Joe Davis and Tom Worrick took the lead at the 305 Sprint start and Davis in the first new car he ever had beat Worrick to the finish by nearly three lengths as Worrick held George Johnson to third, followed in the top five by Scott Ellerman and J.R. Fogelsonger. Worrick and Mike Alleman won the heats. Davis and his son John built the car in their garage using the "Out Back" system.
