PA Sprint Stars To Follow Rahmer To New Jersey

New Egypt, NJ (May 21) -- When Sprint car driver Fred Rahmer comes to New Egypt Speedway on Wednesday, June 16, the entire Pennsylvania "posse" will be on his tail. Rahmer, America's winningest racer in 1998, has donned a promoter's cap and teamed with the Philadelphia Inquirer to bring the 410 PA Sprints to the Central Jersey track on June 16. And all the cars and stars are planning to cross the state line for the big-paying special, the only scheduled New Jersey appearance of the powerful 410 Sprints in 1999.

Those drivers ready to invade the Garden State include championship competitors Lance Dewease, Don Kreitz, Chris Eash, Keith Kauffman, Jeff Shepard, Greg Hodnett, Dan Dietrich, Steve Siegel, the Brian brothers, and Todd Shaffer, among others. A few Jersey boys will also be in the lineup: teenage sensations James and P.J. Chesson, as well as New Egypt's resident Modified star Billy Pauch, who's already inked four wins on the tricky track this season.

Fred Rahmer chose New Egypt as the site of his first-ever promotion in part because he likes the layout of the facility. For 1999, the clay track was enlarged to 4/10ths mile -- a good size for great racing, according to Rahmer.

"Real short tracks are the way to go," said Rahmer, 41. "Grandview, Lincoln, even Path Valley -- the best racing should be tight, side-by-side, not a high-speed freight train. And, for this deal, New Egypt is an untapped market."

The June 16 show, which has a June 17 raindate, will feature time trials, sponsored heats, an Australian Pole Shuffle, and a $500-to-win non-qualifier's race, capped off by a 30-lap feature event that pays $3,000 to the winner and $1,000 for 10th. General admission tickets are $18 for adults, $10 for seniors 65+, and $6 for children ages 7-12. Call (609) 758-1900 for more information.
