New Egypt, NJ (June 7) -- The sound of thunder will be rumbling through the Jersey Pines on Wednesday night, June 14, when the earthshaking Outlaw-style Pennsylvania Sprint Cars make their return to New Egypt Speedway for a single division 30-lap special with a $3,000 top prize and plenty of entertainment appeal. The high-profile event, which drew an overflow crowd last year, is the only scheduled New Jersey appearance of the powerful 410 Sprints in 2000.
Included among the cars and stars ready to cross the state line for the big-paying special are Fred Rahmer, the biggest winner in Pennsylvania the past two seasons; Lance Dewease, a division heavyweight in the Joe Harz #88; Australian champ Skip Jackson, who's teamed with Shawn Keen for a one-two assault; Williams Grove winner and young upstart Len Thompson; and Todd Gracey, a past winner at Lincoln and the Grove. In addition, United Racing Club standouts like Sean Michael, Becca Anderson and Greg Coverdale are set for an all-out attack, utilizing their extensive track experience with URC to take the big money and the posted 360 c.i.d. bonus .
Of course, the man to beat will be New Egypt's defending Modified champion Billy Pauch, who stole all the glory in last year's 410 show in an 11th hour pickup ride. Already a three-time winner in the Modifieds this year at New Egypt, Pauch will be back in the J&J Motorsports car to defend his home turf when the Sprint Cars invade.
Under the direction of Thunder on the Hill promoter Bob Miller, the June 14 show will feature time trials, sponsored heat races, a $1,000-to-win Pole Scramble and B main, capped off by a 30-lap feature event that pays $3,000 to the winner and $1,000 for 10th. Heat races will pay $200 to win, courtesy of Energy Kinetics of Lebanon, NJ. Lias Tire of Indiana, PA, will award an American Racer tire to each of three lucky qualifiers.
The event, which has a June 15 raindate, will kick off at 7:15 pm. General admission tickets are $18 for adults, $10 for seniors 65+, and $6 for children ages 7-12. Call (609) 758-1900 for more information.
