Dewease Wins Back to Back in Pennsylvania Speedweeks

Lance Dewease won the Mitch Smith Memorial friday night at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania. The $10,000 to win feature was round five of Pennsylvania Speedweeks. The series continues on Saturday night at Selinsgrove and wraps up at Susquehanna Speedway on Sunday night.

Brian Paulus started on the pole with Don Kreitz beside him on the front row. At the drop of the green both drivers raced side by side through turns one and two and down the backstretch. Kreitz edged ahead into turn three and took the lead. Dewease was on the move early, passing Kevin Gobrecht into turn one for third, on the second lap. Dewease immediately challenged Paulus, taking second place on the second lap.

Shawn Keen stopped on course bringing out the first yellow of the race with two laps completed.

On the restart, Dewease passed Kreitz for the lead and pulled away from the field. Kreitz in second, tried to hold off a challenge from Kevin Gobrecht in the Apple Chevrolet #12. Gobrecht moved past Kreitz on lap seven.

The track became hard and slick early in the race and the low line began to disappear. The top five stretched out while Pauch and Rahmer raced side by side for sixth.

The yellow appeared once again with eight laps in the book for spin of Jess Thomas.

Kevin Gobrecht ran in the top three until half distance when Billy Pauch ran low through turns three and four putting Gobrecht in fourth. Pauch challenged Kreitz for second while Dewease continued to stretch his lead. On lap 22, it was Rahmer's turn to execute the slide job on Gobrecht, taking fourth place.

With the track getting black with rubber, Dewease eased a bit allowing Kreitz to close the gap. When the yellow flag flew on lap 23 for Brian Paulus hitting the turn four wall, Kreitz had already caught Dewease. The yellow appeared breifly and perhaps unnecessarily when Brian Paulus scraped the turn four wall. Paulus continued without assistance from track crews.

On the restart, the top three, Dewease, Kreitz and Pauch pulled away from the field as they circled the track nose to tail. Dewease ran the high side, two feet off the outside rail. Kreitz tried to work the middle lane on a hard and slick track while Pauch tried to capitalize on Kreitz's lane change.

In the final laps, Dewease pulled away from the battle for second between Kreitz and Pauch.
