OKC & Cowtown on Tap for O'Reilly ASCS National Tour
TULSA, Okla. (June 20, 2005) -- Racing action continues for the American Sprint Car Series this weekend as the O'Reilly ASCS National Tour presented by Love's Travel Stops & Country Stores joins forces with the American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Sooner Region for two action packed nights.
The weekend kicks off at Oklahoma City's State Fair Speedway on Friday night, before moving on to the lightning-fast Cowtown Speedway in Kennedale, TX, for the National Tour's debut atop the quarter-mile clay oval on Saturday night.
Both the National Tour and Sooner Region point chases are heated entering the weekend, with defending National champion Gary Wright of Hooks, TX, holding a slim 34-point lead over Bixby, OK, racer Darren Stewart, while Tulsa's Sean McClelland holds a narrow 16-point edge over Norman's Danny Jennings in the Sooner race.
While Wright sits atop the ASCS National Tour win charts with five victories, extending his career total to 95, Jennings enters the weekend on a hot streak after topping this past weekend's Three-Eighth Mile Nationals at Dodge City Raceway Park on the heels of a recent COMP Cams ASCS Speedweek win. Jennings has four National Tour wins this season to go along with one Sooner Region triumph.
Wright, Jennings, McClelland and COMP Cams ASCS Speedweek champion Stewart will be joined by a host of formidable foes on both nights, including Sam Hafertepe, Jr., Tony Bruce, Jr., Jake Martens, Cody Branchcomb, Kerry McAlister, Preston Peebles II, Foster Landon, J.P. Bailey and Kevin Ramey, who topped the most recent ASCS National Tour event at Oklahoma City.
Friday night's racing action at Oklahoma City's State Fair Speedway is slated to get under way at 7:30 p.m. State Fair Speedway is located on the Oklahoma State Fair Grounds near the intersection of N.W. 10th and May Avenue. For more information, contact the track at 405-948-6796.
