Wright Shoots for Fourth O'Reilly ASCS Triumph in a Row Friday in OKC

TULSA, Okla. (May 16, 2005) -- Hooks, TX, ace Gary Wright will try to add another page to the record books as the O'Reilly American Sprint Car Series National Tour presented by Love's Travel Stops & Country Stores invades Oklahoma City's State Fair Speedway for the first time in 2005 this Friday night.

Through 419 O'Reilly ASCS National Tour events contested in series history, no driver has ever won four consecutive feature events. Wright, the defending series champion, can change that Friday night as he enters riding a three-race wave of wins.

After being shut out of victory lane in the series opening three events of the season, Wright picked up his first triumph on April 23 at Memphis Motorsports Park. Wright followed that up by sweeping through a pair of events in Louisiana at Fast Trax Speedway (Chatham) and Champion Park Speedway (Haughton) to extend his win streak to three and run his career O'Reilly ASCS National Tour feature win count to 93. It is the seventh time in ASCS National Tour history that a driver has claimed three wins in a row, with Wright accomplishing the feat for a fifth time.

Wright will face a number of formidable foes in Friday night's outing atop the 3/8-mile State Fair Speedway clay oval, as the event also is a points race for the American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Sooner Region contenders.

Other top National contenders will include Byhalia, MS, racer Jan Howard, who enters the night just 20 markers behind Wright in the championship points chase, with Bixby, Oklahoma's Darren Stewart a close third.

Brodix Rookie of the Year contenders Jake Martens of Fairview, OK, and Tony Bruce, Jr., of Liberal, KS, enter the night ranked fourth and fifth, respectively.

Other top O'Reilly ASCS National Tour contenders expected include Missouri's Toby Brown, Texan Sam Hafertepe, Jr., Arkansas racer A.G. Rains and Oklahoma City's Jimmy Taylor.

On the strength of three wins through the opening handful of ASCS Sooner Region events, Tulsa's Sean McClelland leads a strong contingent of Regional troops into the night. McClelland holds a 32 point lead over Norman's Danny Jennings, who has a Sooner Region triumph to go along with his sweep of the season-opening ASCS Devil's Bowl Spring Nationals.

Other top Sooner Region contenders expected include Cody Branchcomb (Sapulpa, OK), Kerry McAlister (Mustang, OK), J.P. Bailey (Ft. Worth, TX), Brian McClelland (Tulsa, OK), Preston Peebles II (Lubbock, TX), Foster Landon (Collinsville, OK), Joel Howard (Collinsville, OK) and defending series co-champions Andy Shouse (Oklahoma City) and Kevin Ramey (Ft. Worth).

Approximately 40 cars are expected for Friday night's racing action, which is slated to get under way at 7:30 p.m. State Fair Speedway is located on the Oklahoma State Fair Grounds near the intersection of N.W. 10th and May Avenue. For more information, contact the track at 405-948-6796.

The O'Reilly American Sprint Car Series National Tour presented by Love's Travel Stops & Country Stores will present approximately 40 nights of racing in 2005 at 20 different tracks throughout Arkansas, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Texas.

The American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Sooner Region 2005 slate consists of 18 events at seven different tracks throughout Oklahoma, Texas and Kansas.

In total, including the O'Reilly ASCS National Tour, the Southern Tour and the Sooner, Gulf South, Rocky Mountain and Midwest Regions, the American Sprint Car Series will sanction nearly 120 nights of racing in 2005 at approximately 50 different racetracks throughout at least 16 different states.
