Northern Sprint Tour Win To Randi Miller
In two races with the Northern Sprint Tour, Randi Miller of Rapid City, SD is batting 100% with his second NST A-Feature win coming at Electric City Speedway in Great Falls, MT on Saturday, June 25th, the final night of the Montana Nationals.
Following a rain delay of more than two hours, racing for the 37-car field began shortly after 9:00 PM with Miller parking in the winner's circle shortly after the witching hour of mid-night.
"It was the kind of track I like tonight, heavy and fast," commented Miller. "I just kept my composure and concentrated on the win. The car started to get loose in the high groove late in the race so I went to the bottom and it worked well."
"I enjoy running with the Northern Sprint Tour. They're a good group of cars and I'd like to do it again. We're not running for points anywhere, just pick and choose so we may race the NST Speedweek."
Miller grabbed the lead on the opening lap from Friday night's winner and pole sitter Gary Taylor, by going high on the opening green flag and held command for the full 40-laps of the A-Feature event.
At the mid-point of the race Miller led by almost a quarter lap with Taylor closing the gap some as they worked the traffic with less than 10-laps to go. Taylor, from Snohomish, WA saw his chance to make a challenge for the lead disappear on lap 34 when he coasted to a stop in turn two with a flat left rear tire.
Finishing second to Miler was Brock Lemley of Ferndale, WA. "I didn't think I had a chance of catching him," said Lemley, "but on that last couple of laps I was able to close on him. I gave it my best but Randi was too good." I have to thank my crew for all that they do. The give me a great car on a small budget and they are all awesome people."
Third place went to Rick Fauver of Everett, WA who commented, "It's been a long weekend. We ran poorly yesterday and everyone has worked his tail off. Just a big thank you to everyone."
The B-Feature went to D. Smith of Cottage Grove, OR. Nutter challenged as the leads worked traffic, but the Central Point, OR driver lost his traffic advantage to a yellow flag on lap-7. With an open track, Smith opened an eight car length lead with Nutter, Travis Jacobson of Lake Stevens, WA, Morinville, AB driver Geoff Beck and Marc Huson of Sedro Woolley, WA followed. Huson mad a strong bid for the last A-Feature transfer spot but was foiled by a yellow on the white flag lap.
In heat race action the first heat went to Jay Burns as the Huntly, MT driver led all laps. Heat two saw Tyler Pinceman of Morinville, AB take the top spot, holding off a determined Miller the last two laps.
Heat three went to 16-year-old rookie Jared Ridge of Monroe, WA as he held Taylor at bay the entire 10 laps.
In the nights final heat race it was Billings, MT driver Phil Dietz showing everyone the fastest way to the finish line.
In the dash Taylor took the win over Miller, Ramaker, Lemley, Fauver, Bill Boyce, setting the first six positions in the A-Feature line up.
Billy Nutter set fast time for the night with a 12.569 second lap, just .02 seconds of the track record.
