Northern Sprint Tour Starts 10th Year
The Northern Sprint Tour opens its tenth year of wheel banging, wing-to-wing Sprint Car racing action when it takes to the track at Willamette Speedway in Lebanon, OR on April 29th and then moving north to Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma, WA on Saturday the 30th.
Returning to defend his title, four time Northern Sprint Tour champion, Roger Crockett of Eugene, OR is expected to again be a huge threat as he sets his sights on a fifth title. Among the many drivers determined to see that that doesn't happen are veterans Billy Nutter of Central Point, OR, Everett, WA veteran and past NST champ Rick Fauver, Marvin Smith and Dale Smith out of Cottage Grove, OR, Alberta, Canada drivers Jeff Hodgson of St. Albert, and Dawn-L Morrison of Millet, Idaho drivers Shawn Smith, Chris Adams and Randy Pierce, Shelton WA's Jay Cole and Glenn Borden, Raymond, WA and Dan Menne of Ft. Jones, CA. Marc Huson of Sedro Woolley, WA a name well known to fans of the northwest, is expected to returns for part the 2005 NST season and should be a threat as in the past.
A large list of returning Oregon drivers such as hot shoes Jeff Thompson, Dallas Zuniga, T.J. Winningham, Shane Forte, Danny Horner, Bryce Fugate, Bob Brooke and Melissa Yates are expected when NST makes its first appearance in the state.
Additional Washington drivers expected to return include Mark Torres, Randy Van Aagten, Henry Van Dam, Shawn Rice, Brad Holmes, Derek Ingalls, David Gilmore, Paul Zimmerly and Rob McNulty. Returning to sprint car action will be Kevin Rudeen with teammate Matt Steinhauer on board as a rookie.
Along with Steinhauer, the rookie ranks for 2005 look to be record size. The list at present also includes the Jacobson brothers Andy and Travis, Jesse Whitney, Alex Hantel, Jared Ridge, Brock Lemley, Josh Dewitt and Jake Mann, all from Washington. British Columbia young lion Travis Rutz is on board along with Oregon drivers Dallas Zuniga, Danny Horner, Brendan Boyce and Braden Etchison.
After losing last year's opener at Willamette Speedway to the weather, drivers and crews will have their eyes to the skies at both Willamette Speedway and Grays Harbor Raceway as they focus their efforts on the search for their first win of the 2005 season.
Pit Gates will open at 3:00 PM with racing scheduled to start at 7:00 PM at both tracks.
